California's state legislature on Thursday passed the bills that comprise the state's plan to put new congressional bills on the ballot in a November special election, in retaliation for a congressional redistricting plan moving forward in Texas.

California voters will decide in a November special election whether to approve a redrawn congressional map designed to help Democrats win five more U.S. House seats next year.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) each confirmed on Sunday plans to redraw the congressional maps in their respective states after California approved a measure setting up redistricting for a popular vote this fall.
