Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has received both criticism and praise on social media after announcing on Monday that he is dropping retaliatory tariffs introduced on U.S. goods that are covered under the Canada-United States-Mexico trade agreement (CUSMA).

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday and had "a productive and wide-ranging conversation" on trade challenges and other issues, Carney's office said in a statement.

Today, the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, announced that he will travel to Poland, Germany, and Latvia, from August 25 to 27, 2025. He will be focused on strengthening relationships with European allies and advancing co-operation in key areas, including trade, energy, critical minerals, and collective defence.

Carney spoke with Trump Thursday in what the Canadian PM's office described as "a productive and wide-ranging conversation."
