Gov. Ron DeSantis is pressing ahead on aiding federal deportation efforts even as he remains locked in a stalemate with legislative leaders over new laws to beef up state and local immigration enforcement.

The agreement allows FHP troopers to be trained and approved by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and arrest and detain illegal immigrants caught coming into the U.S.

Florida International University trustees voted Friday to install Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez as interim president, meaning she will leave her statewide-elected office 23 months before her term expires. Trustees expect she will assume the presidency officially after a formal search.
