Cult leader and killer Charles Manson admitted to committing murders before he infamously became the head of the so-called Manson Family and led his troop of followers to commit a string of brutal killings in California in 1969.

In 2017, Manson died of natural causes while serving a lifetime sentence at California State Prison-Corcoran, where he had been housed since 1989. He was originally sentenced to death before California abolished the death penalty. He was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Manson rose to notoriety for orchestrating the brutal murder of actor Sharon Tate, 26, in 1969. After being arrested the following year, he appeared at the trial with a swastika carved into his head and was given the death sentence, which was changed to nine consecutive life sentences after California abolished the death penalty.

A new docuseries about the cult leader features audio in which he admits to participating in multiple killings in Mexico before the notorious Manson family murders of 1969.
