Heavy rain and wind followed the dust storm, delaying flights at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and causing some damage to a terminal roof.

If you are caught in a dust storm, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake, the National Weather Service said.

A towering wall of dust, known meteorologically as a haboob, swallowed parts of metro Phoenix Monday evening, plunging the city into near-zero visibility and leaving behind downed trees, wind damage and widespread power outages.
