SHANGHAI -- A giant 26-meter (85-foot) Lego figure named Dada welcomed visitors to the new Legoland resort in Shanghai. The resort, which opened Saturday, is the first in China. It is one of 11 parks across the world and was built with 85 million Lego bricks.

SHANGHAI (Reuters) -Tourists and residents in Shanghai on Saturday braved sweltering heat for the official opening of China's first Legoland resort, featuring thousands of structures built with over 85 million Lego bricks.

China's first Legoland opened in Shanghai on Saturday, featuring eight areas themed on such characters as the Monkey King from the classic Chinese novel "Journey to the West" as well as an expansive replica of the local cityscape made of Lego bricks.
