A fire on the USS New Orleans prompted firefighting efforts by Japanese forces near White Beach Naval Facility, NHK reported.

The amphibious transport dock ship came back to White Beach Naval Facility under its own power, the U.S. 7th Fleet said.

U.S. Navy crews and the Japan Coast Guard fought the blaze for about 11 hours before extinguishing it Thursday morning.
