Despite suiting up just eight players, the Valkyries snapped their three-game losing streak with a 90-81 road victory over the Dallas Wings. It helped that Golden State thoroughly shut down Dallas’ rookie sensation Paige Bueckers, holding the former UConn superstar to nine points on 3-of-12 shooting from the field.

The Valkyries started the first quarter on a 7-0 run that ended when Siegrist made two free throws at the 6:18 mark. Golden State went on another run before the Wings, down 12-2 with just over five remaining in the first quarter, called a timeout.

Sunday night was a historic night for the Golden State Valkyries. The WNBA’s newest team has been searching for a star to step in since Kayla Thornton suffered a season-ending injury in July, and on Sunday, a star most certainly stepped in, in the form of sharpshooting guard Veronica Burton.
