It’s a three-horse race for the 2024-25 Calder Trophy, with no clear front-runner down the home stretch. At this point in the season, the NHL’s top rookie has usually revealed itself. That’s not the case this year, according to The Athletic ’s Scott Wheeler and Harman Dayal.

In the latest instalment of it's Trophy Tracker series, NHL.com has release the result of a polling of 16 of its journalists today concerning the Calder Trophy race. It was a tight affair but Montreal Canadiens rookie blueliner Lane Hutson is edging the competition three quarters of the way into the season.

The last time a member of the Canadiens won the Calder Trophy, it was Ken Dryden in 1972. We will remember that the year before, he had won the Stanley Cup. You know, the time when the CH won the Cup?
