Austin weather: Winter storm watch issued for parts of Central Texas
For the fourth day in a row, the long-range computer weather models are hinting at a Winter Storm hitting Texas this weekend.
A sharp temperature drop arrives this weekend, but will there be any wintry precipitation? Here's what we know and don't know.
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for parts of the Hill Country beginning Friday afternoon. We expect that the NWS Austin/San Antonio office will extend this watch farther south later today. An arctic cold front will be moving through Texas late in the day on Friday, ushering in the coldest temperatures of the season so far.
Austin Energy says crews, equipment and power plants are ready as an Arctic cold front brings freezing temperatures to the area this weekend.
That front is expected to arrive early next week, bringing cooler weather for Tuesday. Another system may approach around Wednesday, though rain chances remain low at roughly 30 percent and are unlikely to provide meaningful rainfall.

Austin weather: Arctic front ahead with possible wintry mix
AUSTIN, Texas - Early indications from long range computer weather models are hinting at a wintry mix threat for the weekend. An Arctic front is scheduled to arrive on Friday. At the same time, a Western Low will pump in moisture from the Pacific and push it above the cold air. This interaction will create clouds and more precipitation.
Confidence is increasing that an arctic cold front could bring Texas its coldest temperatures of the winter, as well as possible ice and snow.
