Defending champion Madison Keys survived a stiff second-round challenge to beat fellow American Ashlyn Krueger 6-1, 7-5.

The six-time Grand Slam champion moved into the round of 32 at the Australian Open in straight sets on Thursday.

Carlos Alcaraz has made a solid start to the Australian Open, reaching the third round without dropping a set. He moved past Yannick Hanfmann and Adam Walton in straight sets and is now set to take on Corentin Moutet.

Novak Djokovic reached the Australian Open third round with a straight-sets win, recording his 399th Grand Slam victory. Madison Keys, Amanda Anisimova, Jessica Pegula and Ben Shelton also advanced as the tournament moved into Day 5.
