The Dallas Mavericks shocked everyone when they got the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, which gives them the chance to draft Cooper Flagg.
As of Monday, a No. 77 Mavericks jersey that features the phrase “Fire Nico” across the back has gone up for auction. Bids for the jersey have gone up to $1,500, thanks to a particular feature on one of the numbers. The jersey was signed by none other than Doncic himself.
In the wake of the lottery results, former NBA player and two-time champion with the Lakers, Mychal Thompson, took to social media to comment on the situation. Thompson, whose son Klay currently plays for the Mavericks, predicted Dallas will trade Flagg to LA in five years.
Dallas Mavericks fans have spent the last few months in something akin to open rebellion against the team’s front office after franchise icon Luka Dončić was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Dallas Mavericks went into Monday's NBA Draft lottery with just a 1.8 percent chance of landing the No. 1 overall pick and the rights to select Duke star Cooper Flagg. The odds were so minuscule that Kyrie Irving was seemingly just as surprised as the rest of us.

In his lone season at Duke, Flagg led the team to a Final Four appearance while also being the team leader in points (19.2), rebounds (7.5), assists (4.2), steals (1.4) and blocks (1.4). Flagg was also named the ACC Player of the Year and the 2025 Naismith Men's College Player of the Year.
This is emphatically not the situation Cooper Flagg is about to walk into. If everything goes right, the Mavericks -- who improbably won the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft on Monday night -- could genuinely contend for the 2026 championship.
