THE WOODLANDS — Last year at the Chevron Championship, Mao Saigo missed the cut by a single shot. This year she will be in the final grouping of the LPGA’s first major of the year. Saigo played herself into that position with a 3-under round on Saturday, leaving her tied atop the leaderboard at 9 under along with Haeran Ryu.

Haeran Ryu capped a front-nine run in the Chevron Championship with a chip-in birdie on the ninth hole, then held on in tricky wind conditions Saturday for a share of the third-round lead with Mao Saigo.
