Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered his forces to cease all military activity against Ukraine until midnight Sunday in what appeared to be an attempt to assuage an increasingly impatient Trump administration and demonstrate Moscow’s interest in peace talks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the ceasefire “another attempt by Putin to play with human lives.”

Ukraine imposed sanctions on three Chinese companies on Friday claiming they were involved in production of advanced Iskander missiles, a day after President Volodymyr Zelenskiy alleged that China had been supplying weapons to Russia.
