The Minneapolis City Council on Thursday voted to approve another hefty legal settlement related to ex-police officer Derek Chauvin.

City Council Member Jason Chavez expressed disappointment at the shelter's closure, emphasizing the significant impact the loss of 137 beds would have on addressing homelessness in Minneapolis. Chavez also noted that Agate is not the only shelter in the city facing financial challenges.

The city of Minneapolis reached a settlement for $600,000 with a woman who accused ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin and his former partner, Ellen Jensen, of using excessive force during an arrest in January of 2020.

Her attorneys say Chauvin “violently yanked Patty from her vehicle and, without justification, threw her to the ground in the middle of the street."

The City Council voted Thursday to approve a $600,000 settlement in the case of woman who accused then-officer Derek Chauvin of excessive force in 2020, just a few months before he would kill George Floyd.
