Strathmere and other shore communities in New Jersey are fixing up their beaches after Hurricane Erin caused erosion along the coast.

Hurricane Erin is expected to bring dangerous surf at the Jersey Shore even as it stays off of the coast. Lifeguards are issuing renewed advice about what to do if you get caught in a rip current.

Waves from Hurricane Erin pounded Long Beach Island earlier this week, taking away a historic island landmark. A steel mast poking above the sand on the beach at Barnegat Light was all that remained to let people know the final resting place of the vessel Sea King. On Thursday night, the storm pulled the mast back to sea.
