Eyed Click Beetles (Alaus oculatus) can be found in woodlands and yards across the eastern United States. They’re often found in areas with rotting logs or with trees containing wood boring beetles. The larvae of Eyed Click Beetles feed on wood boring beetle larvae. The large eyespots of Eyed Click Beetles have a distinct white border and presumably help deter potential predators. But why are they called a “click beetle?” It’s because they make an audible clicking noise when they rapidly flex th
