The scalene muscles are a group of three paired muscles located in the lateral aspect of the neck: anterior, middle, and posterior scalenes. They originate from the transverse processes of the cervical vertebrae and insert onto the first and second ribs. Scalene muscle strain can cause neck and shoulder pain 🤕, but relief is just a stretch away 👋. To alleviate this discomfort, try gently tilting your head to the side, bringing your ear towards your shoulder 👂, and tucking your chin towards your chest, stretching the back of your neck 🤯. Rolling your shoulders forward and backward can also help release tension 🌪️.
