In this clip from The Story of the Animated Drawing, Walt explains how Fantasia’s Nutcracker Suite was brought to life. The studio developed new techniques for painting cels so the pastels and chalks from the concept art could be translated to the screen. They used dry brush techniques and airbrushes, with a single cel taking three to four hours to paint.
