Amlodipine causes leg swelling (pedal edema) due to arteriolar vasodilation without that much venous dilation. This increases capillary hydrostatic pressure, pushing fluid , especially around the ankles. It is not due to heart or kidney failure. Swelling is dose related. Management includes dose reduction,shifting to other anti-hypertensive like ACE inhibitor or ARB, which reduces edema.
