Johnny Horton was born on April 30, 1925, in Los Angeles. After an early career recording Honky-Tonk tunes, he became known for his songs that often had historical themes. Some of his most famous records include “North To Alaska,” which was featured in the John Wayne film of the same name, “Sink The Bismarck,” and the Grammy Award-winning "The Battle Of New Orleans".
